Head of the laboratory: Kateřina Schwarzerová a Lukáš Fischer

The program of the laboratory has been developing continuously since 1997, when a new group under Dr. Opatrný leadership was established at the Department of Plant Physiology in the connection with a new project „Plant cell and Stress“. In this way, brand new insights to the plant cell behaviour followed up with three decades of plant cell biotechnology and particularly cell lines application research. It was initiated the investigation of some plant cell structure functions, such as cytoskeletal, membrane and nuclear role during normal and stress conditions. Nowadays, we are concerned with the role of cytoskeleton in plant cell, tissue and organism growth and development, with cell signal transduction, with the realization of cell division, growth, differentiation, senescence and death or with stress response. The link between these themes is also the methodological approach consisting of molecular and cell biology analyses, transgene models – cell lines, different types of in vitro cultures and transformed plants. One of the crucial requirements at these models is their balance and stability in the insertion and expression of transgenes – reporter, but also metabolically/functionally important. Therefore, the second basic scientific orientation of the laboratory became the field of gene silencing as a phenomenon with wide theoretical and practical implication.
