název Carbon fluxes in wet grasslands with either mineral or organic soil: Short-term effects of eutrophication on carbon sequestration
anotace Wetlands can be important areas of carbon storage. However, changes in the amount and rate of nutrient loading can affect this capacity. Wetlands suffering from eutrophication can shift from being carbon sinks to carbon sources. How rapidly or to what degree this shift can occur may also depend upon the soil type in the wetland as well as interactions between plants and soil microbes. In this presentation, I will first give a general overview of carbon flow through terrestrial ecosystems. Then an example from our study of wet grasslands will be given to demonstrate the short-term effect of eutrophication on the ability of these wet grasslands to act as carbon sinks. Results will be shown (both plant and soil processes) for two wet grasslands, one with mineral soil and the other with organic soil, which have been subjected to different levels of nutrient addition since 2006. Lastly, preliminary carbon budgets will be presented for each wetland under the different nutrient treatments to give an indication whether short-term nutrient additions can affect the ability of these wet grasslands to act as carbon sinks.
